Etiquette & Code of Conduct

  • If you have any questions throughout the event, our crew at the front desk will be happy to help.
  • This is an alcohol-free event, and glass containers are not permitted inside the venue. Feel free to bring water, juice, or other non-alcoholic drinks in a sealable bottle. If you do have a spill, please let a crew member know or help clean it up promptly so nobody ends up slipping or standing in it.
  • If you're feeling unwell, we ask that you stay home - look after yourself and help us take care of our other attendees. There will always be another opportunity to dance!
  • Please keep bags and personal belongings tucked away under tables or against the wall so that walkways and dance spaces remain clear.
  • Everyone is here to learn, and we all learn at our own pace. Please avoid giving unsolicited advice or feedback, both during workshops and on the social floor. The exception, of course, is if you are feeling unsafe or have been hurt.
  • We're lucky to have dancers joining us from all over New Zealand and beyond. Take the opportunity to meet new people and ask lots of different people to dance.
  • Please be mindful of your partner's comfort and always respect their boundaries. There are many different factors that influence what someone is comfortable with.
  • You're welcome to dance in whichever role you choose - lead, follow, or both!
  • We believe strongly in a culture of consent. Please ask someone to dance, and don't take it personally if they decline. A simple "No thank you" is a complete and acceptable response, and no explanation is ever required.
  • We want Swingvasion to be a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for everyone. We have zero tolerance for behaviour that makes others feel unsafe or unwelcome, including inappropriate or sexual comments or jokes, unwanted physical contact, repeatedly pursuing someone after they've declined a dance, or discrimination of any kind.
  • If you experience or witness behaviour that concerns you, please speak to a member of the crew. Reports will be handled respectfully, discreetly, and confidentially by the appropriate Swingvasion staff. Where behaviour compromises someone's safety or the event's code of conduct, staff will intervene. Depending on the circumstances, individuals may be asked to leave the event immediately and without refund.
  • Most importantly – have fun!!
